Obama appoints Amar to National Council on the Humanities

President Barack Obama announced on May 20 his intent to nominate Yale Law School professor Akhil Amar ’80 LAW ’84 to the National Council on the Humanities.

Petition calls for retraction of Okonjo-Iweala’s honorary degree

Two days after the University conferred an honorary doctorate to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s finance minister, Nigerian political activist Sunday Iwalaiye launched an online petition calling for the degree to be rescinded.

Yellen among honorary degree recipients

Ben Carson ’73 announces 2016 candidacy

Carson, a political conservative and acclaimed African-American neurosurgeon from Detroit, Mich., graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He later received his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School, and, in 1987, became the first surgeon to successfully separate twin joins conjoined at the head.

Power outage strikes campus
