Within the past year, Oklahoma University and the University of Texas announced that they were leaving the Big 12 conference for the SEC; several schools followed suit, setting off a new wave of conference realignment in college sports.

It now seems that Yale will be the next domino to fall. Sources within the athletic department told the News that, encouraged by the performance of the men’s basketball team against Purdue, the Bulldogs are taking their talents to the Big Ten. After 68 years competing in the Ivy League, Yale is leaving behind Harvard and Princeton for more comparable schools like Michigan and Ohio State.

This decision has massive implications for everyone involved in Yale Athletics. While Yale does not release salaries for their head coaches, it is safe to say that men’s basketball and football head coaches James Jones and Tony Reno are in line for multimillion dollar raises.

The move also changes the recruiting game for Yale. An image recently surfaced on Twitter of Arch Manning, the top high school quarterback prospect in the Class of 2023 and nephew of Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, making an official visit to Yale, joined by several five-star basketball prospects.

Notable Yale Law School alum, zealous football donor, and current Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor was so excited by the news that she pledged to uphold new legislation allocating millions of New Haven tax dollars towards Yale Bowl renovations.

Following the change, Las Vegas has Yale as the odds-on favorite to win the Big Ten football crown next season.
