Sophia Chua, daughter of Yale Law School professor Amy Chua, wrote a piece yesterday in the New York Post defending her mother.

Amy Chua recently wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal titled “Why Chinese Mothers are Superior,” which garnered her much media criticism for her strict parenting techniques. Her daughter, however, describes a kind mother who let her daughter wear makeup, encouraged her to think creatively, and made dumplings for her friends.

“I didn’t rebel, but I didn’t suffer all the slings and arrows of a Tiger Mom, either,” she wrote. “I pretty much do my own thing these days — like building greenhouses downtown, blasting Daft Punk in the car with Lulu and forcing my boyfriend to watch “Lord of the Rings” with me over and over — as long as I get my piano done first.”

She concludes by thanking her mother, whom she refers to humorously as “Tiger Mom,” for teaching her to push herself to the limits of her potential.

“If I died tomorrow, I would die feeling I’ve lived my whole life at 110 percent,” she said.
