Could Allison Williams ’10 be the newest HBO starlet? It’s possible, now that the network is picking up the Judd Apatow-produced pilot she joined in October, Deadline Hollywood reported.

“Girls,” a half-hour comedy written and directed by the acclaimed Lena Dunham, follows the lives of three girlfriends in their early 20s, trying to build a life in New York. Williams will star alongside Dunham and Jemima Kirke as “Marnie,” a “sexy,” type-A woman working in political PR who aspires to practice environmental law. So we’re thinking she’s the Samantha of the group.

Dunham’s film “Tiny Furniture,” which also starred Dunham and Kirke, took home the narrative jury prize at South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Tex., and was nominated for three Indie Spirit awards, including Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay for Dunham. For purposes of comparison, “Black Swan” received four Indie Spirit nominations, while “The King’s Speech” garnered one.
