The Ivy League triumvirate — Harvard, Yale and Princeton — will battle this Saturday at Coxe Cage in the annual HYP triangular meet, two weeks before they face off again at the Heptagonal Championships in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Tiger men dominated the HYP meet last season in Princeton before going on to earn the Ivy League title. The Princeton women also won last year’s HYP, but they were unable to convert that victory into Ancient Eight gold.

This weekend’s meet will test the mettle of the long-standing Ivy foes as they will put the invitational mentality they have held for the past month behind them. Since this weekend’s meet will be scored for the team as a whole, it’s no longer about what the athletes can do for themselves in earning championship qualifying times, but what they can do for their team in earning more total points.

To earn more points, both the Bulldog men and women will need to increase their depth in all of the events.

“Our team has a number of guys that can take the top spot,” high jumper Samuel Fox ’09 said. “It’s just a matter of getting more people in the top four because there is little point distinction between first and fourth place.”
