Clare Morgana Gillis, a New Haven-native who was captured and detained last month while covering the uprising in Libya, will be released tonight or Wednesday, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Gillis was detained on charges that she and three other journalists had entered Libya without visas while she was reporting for USA Today and The Atlantic April 5. Gillis mother, Jane Gillis of East Rock, works as a catalog librarian on the rare books team at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

“It’s not really a done deal until they’re out,” Jane Gillis told the Associated Press. “We’re very hopeful, but we’re still waiting and hope that all the news stories are true.”

A Facebook page titled “Friends for the Release of Clare Gillis” had over 1,200 fans as of Tuesday evening.
