Commencement 2021 is a special issue of the Yale Daily News, the oldest college daily. While the daily version of the paper is typically designed and edited by members of the junior class, Commencement “Spissue” is a special edition of the paper that is run by sophomore reporters who take over as editors and guide first-year reporters as they write content relevant to the class of 2021’s time at Yale. The Commencement Spissue is usually distributed in print on the day of graduation, and seniors and their families alike can read highlights from the past four years collected in a single volume.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the class of 2021’s final year-and-a-half on campus, the Yale Daily News hopes to honor their time at Yale by adhering to tradition and presenting an online version of the Commencement Spissue, which contains all of the content that the class of 2021 and their families would have received had graduation taken place in non-pandemic times. Though the pandemic has prevented seniors from experiencing the traditional conclusion to their time at Yale, we at the News hope that this look back will help seniors remember the past four years and reflect on all that they have accomplished, grown through and experienced together. We feel honored to tell the class of 2021’s story.
The Commencement Spissue editors would also like to thank our predecessors — graduating members of the masthead of 2019-2020 — for their contributions to Yale and to the News. Congratulations on your graduation!
