And once again, the Bulldog defense allows an offense to march down the field, but keeps the opposition out of the end zone. The 15-play, 87-yard drive lasted about seven minutes but only resulted in a 22-yard field goal. The kick cuts the Yale lead to 7-6 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.

If the Bulldogs want pull off a win, the offense needs to puts points on the board. Unlike Penn last week, the Columbia offense has proven that it can move the ball down the field effectively. This game cannot be won with seven points.

Despite starting deep in their own territory, the Lions find themselves on the Yale 40-yard line and are steadily marching down the field. The Yale defense has been one to allow such drives but hold the opposition from putting points on the board. The defense will need to come up with another opportunistic play this time around to keep the pressure off an inept offense.

Much hoopla surrounds McLeod, and understandably so, but Columbia tailback Jordan Davis looks really impressive thus far. The running back is a hard runner and has already inflicted some big hits on Yale defenders. As of now, he has four carries for 16 yards.

McLeod ran it in from 8 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 7-3 lead — after the Mante extra point. The touchdown is McLeod’s fourth of the season and concluded a three-play, 48-yard drive — the most impressive offensive showing by the Bulldogs since their win over Dartmouth three weeks ago.

Coming in, much was talked about how Oluwale could be a force with his legs, and he was quick to show why. On Columbia’s second drive, which concluded with a 37-yard field goal to make it 3-0, Oluwale was about to scramble for 44 yards to the Yale 20.

  9. 3 and out

Judging from the Bulldogs’ first series, the Yale offense may be on its way to another offensive struggle. After a badly thrown incompletion on a screen pass by Brook Hart, Mike McLeod was stuffed behind the line on his first two rushes. If Yale wants to get anything going offensively, the run game needs to get established.

The Yale defense was able to stop the Quakers, who were simply trying to milk the clock with running plays. With 25 seconds left on the clock, the Bulldogs will receive the Penn punt looking to win the game.
