GYMNASTICS: Elis compete in Windy City

On Friday, the Yale gymnastics team rebounded from last week’s season-worst performance against Springfield College in a tri-school meet in the Windy City. The Bulldogs scored 190.750 points at the Navy Pier Quad Meet in Chicago, placing behind Iowa State’s 194.950 and Northern Illinois’s 194.475.

Despite uncharacteristic mistakes that led to a season-low team score, strong individual performances propelled the Yale gymnastics team to a victory over visiting Springfield College on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated the Pride 188.650–184.250 and placed first in every event, though Springfield College senior Abby Clark took the all-around title.

GYMNASTICS: Meet honors former Yale coach

The Yale gymnastics team will host its first home meet on Saturday, but the first annual Don Tonry Invitational has a special meaning to anyone who has been part of the Yale gymnastics program since 1962. A lynchpin of Yale gymnastics, Tonry was a coach, an Olympian and an administrator. He died at the age of 78 in May 2013.
