FOOTBALL: Yale returns to form, beats Maine

On Saturday the Yale football team returned to the ground game and earned its fourth win of the season, overpowering non-conference opponent Maine 21–10. An excellent showing by the defense bookended a two-touchdown, 139-yard performance by running back Deshawn Salter ’18 as the Bulldogs held the Black Bears to just 10 points and 308 total yards, both season-bests for the Elis.

In late October of last year, The New York Times published a profile of running back Tyler Varga ’15, who was then five games and 709 yards into a record-breaking senior season. Thanks in part to the article — which detailed Varga’s extreme workout habits and unconventional diet — the Tupperware of rice that Varga brought to classes became part of the lore surrounding the current NFL tailback.
