An unidentified man attempted to break into two Lynwood Place homes just after midnight Monday morning, according to a Yale Police crime alert sent to the University community.

According to the alert, the attempted break-ins took place early Monday morning. Two individuals, living in two different houses on Lynwood, reported waking up to an unidentified man attempting to enter their rooms through windows. The man then ran away after being noticed, the alert says. The Yale Police Department is investigating the burglary attempts, which both fall in the department’s jurisdiction.

Police do not yet know other identifying information about the suspect, according to the alert.

“Yale Police are actively investigating the recent reports of attempted burglaries on Lynwood Place in coordination with the New Haven Police Department,” Duane Lovello, the head of Yale Public Safety, wrote in an email to the News. “Yale Police and Yale Security continue to maintain high visibility throughout campus with a heightened presence in the Lynwood Place vicinity.”

Lovello also urged residents to “check that the exterior of your residence has sufficient lighting” and “ensure that their windows have locks and that windows remain locked and clear of vegetation or other obstructions that could provide concealment.”

Sunday night’s attempted break-ins mark the second and third attempted burglaries on Lynwood Place since the start of the academic year.

A crime alert sent to the University community on Aug. 24 reported an attempted burglary at 21 Lynwood Place just after 5 a.m. that day. A suspect, wearing a red hoodie, attempted to reach into the window of a Yale student’s room. After discovering the intruder, the student screamed, prompting the suspect to flee, per the alert.

Police have not sent further updates on the case to the University community.

Yale Police Chief Anthony Campbell ’95 DIV ’09 did not respond to the News’ texted request for comment.

Lynwood Place runs from Elm Street to Edgewood Place.
