After starting the season with two strong wins against Vassar (3–1) and UConn (0–2), the Yale men’s rugby team (3–0) continued rolling with a big win against Brown (3–1) 45–7 over the weekend.

The Elis expected a close match because of Brown’s previously undefeated record. Despite Brown’s strong standing, the Bulldogs came out swinging and didn’t let up.

“Brown is easily one of the best if not the best rugby colleges in America — especially off the back of being D1 national champions in 2024 — so playing any sort of Brown side, knowing the caliber of players they have and are constantly training with is always a huge feat,” Tobi Bamisaye ’29 wrote to the News.

However, the Bulldogs not only beat the Bears but blew them out by 38 points.

Even though Yale was laser-focused, the team still made sure to have fun while they were playing. They enjoyed themselves by producing highlight plays, which were frequent for the Bulldogs during the game against Brown.

“My favorite moment was probably a little bit of a champagne rugby moment where our ten kicked it to the wing, I caught it, passed it off to Jack Pankey and he scored a lovely little try,” Chin Onwu ’28 said.

The men’s rugby team builds camaraderie on and off the field, which leads to chemistry when they play against an opponent.

“The Rugby team is made up of the type of people who are willing to commit so much time to a club sport and risk their bodies for the team, which builds a really tight bond,” Joe Gicante ’28 said.

This upcoming Saturday, Yale travels to New York to face off against Niagara (0–1). Later this season, the Elis are looking forward to playing their archrival, Harvard at home on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
