Yale’s Schwarzman Center opened its fourth season with a fall season launch party Thursday evening.
The launch party included appearances from Italian jump rope sensation Parini Secondo and DJ Dana Game, as well as Leo Villareal’s “Celestial Garden” light show.
The event opened up with jump roping from Parini Secondo before Nydia del Carmen ‘26, a former editor for the News, performed her original song, “How It Hurts To Be Alone.”
After hearing her sing at Sweet Spot open mic nights, a student talent showcase, the Schwarzman Center asked del Carmen to perform at the launch party, a request she said was an “honor” to receive.
“The launch party creates excitement for all these events that are going to happen throughout the year,” del Carmen said. “These events give different people on campus a chance to express themselves and show their doing meaningful things. It’s really cool how it bridges different parts of campus together.”
The season will include music performances from School of Music students, drag performers and Yale alumni. The Schwarzman Center also hosts plays, dance recitals and sessions that allow Yale students and special guests to converse over a meal.
The Schwarzman Center also plans to co-host events with the Macmillan Center, Yale Hospitality and the Yale Native American Cultural Center this fall.
At the launch party, some students learned for the first time that the Schwarzman Center has more to offer than Commons, the Bow Wow and the Elm.
Zahra Bakrin ‘28 was one of those students. Bakrin decided to attend the launch party after witnessing the jump rope opener on Beinecke Plaza.
“I honestly didn’t know that much about its purpose before the launch party, but what I gathered is that it’s a space for artistic showcases that I hope to take advantage of,” she said.
The Schwarzman Center’s leadership said they hoped the launch party amplified the center’s community-building events.
“Arts, culture, culinary offerings and the wellness center all contribute to building a really robust and cohesive community,” executive director Rachel Fine said.
The Schwarzman Center opened to the Yale community in 2021.
