The Yale College Council, the Yale College Democrats and the Yale Daily News are each hosting events this week featuring candidates running for the Ward 1 alder position in anticipation of the Democratic primary Sept. 9.

The three Yalies running to represent the downtown district on New Haven’s Board of Alders — Norah Laughter ’26, Rhea McTiernan Huge ’27 and Elias Theodore ’27 — will be at all three events, the organizations have said.

On Monday, Sept. 1, the YCC is hosting a “Town Hall” forum at Dwight Hall on Old Campus, which has been advertised as a chance for Yalies to meet the candidates, ask them questions and hear about their campaigns. The event, which is also sponsored by the Yale Democracy Project and Dwight Hall, will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, the News is moderating a debate between the candidates at First and Summerfield United Methodist Church on College Street. The event will begin at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Yale College Democrats are hosting a meet-and-greet event in the Pierson College Common Room, which they are advertising as “an open conversation with the candidates about their vision.”

Election day for the Democratic primary is Tuesday, Sept. 9. Eligible voters can register in person until noon on Sept. 8.
