One thing about Yale is that our campus is absolutely beautiful, and there’s nothing like a good stroll — or what I like to call a good stomp — that will make me feel better. If you ever feel like your suite is too cramped, your school work is just not getting done, there’s too much on your mind and you need some air, go on a walk: Cross Campus is eager to have you wander and ponder, and there’s a playlist waiting to be listened to.

  1. “Linger” by the Cranberries

This is my song. No one can take this song away from me. I don’t even feel like I need to explain this one, because if you get it you get it. If something is lingering in my mind while I’m on my little walk around campus, I let myself linger upon it. No one can take that away from me either.

Never stop lingering.

  1. “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding

Honestly, no era does nostalgia like the 2010s, and this song transcends, I tell you. They just don’t make music like this anymore. Someone take me back to 2015 because what do you mean “I’ll let you set the pace because I’m not thinking straight my head’s spinning around I can’t see clear no more what are you waiting for???????? Because genuinely what are you waiting for?

  1. “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis

If I’m stomping around campus to clear my head, perhaps I am looking back in anger at something. Well, this song says don’t, so I don’t — or at least I try not to.

I am also a Wonderwall defender for life, proudly.

  1. “Norman fucking Rockwell” by Lana Del Rey

Listen to her. No — but really listen to her.

  1. “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield.

I mean, Natasha’s right. Sometimes you gotta just feel the rain on your skin no one else can feel it for you only you can let it in.

  1. “Supercut” by Lorde

Are you SPIRALING????? We’ve all been there, trust.

Whenever I listen to this song I look at the people I’m walking past and feel bad for them that they’re not listening to this masterpiece with me.

  1. “That’s So True” by Gracie Abrams

Because honestly that is soooooo true.

This song came out pretty recently and — I’m not going to lie — according to Spotify it’s my most listened to track of this month.

  1. “Since U been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson

A stomp classic. When I hear this song I really do feel like “I can breathe for the first time.” Bless, peace and love, Kelly.

  1. “There She Goes” by the La’s

You know what? Sometimes it’s okay to pretend to be Rory Gilmore when waltzing around Yale. No one needs to know what’s playing in your earbuds — except for me.

  1. “Ride” by Lana Del Rey

Another Lana classic I can’t not mention. Be delusional for 4 minutes and 49 seconds and pretend that the wind is blowing in your hair, not just out of coincidence.

  1. “Free Now” by Gracie Abrams

Listening to this song I really do feel free now, especially when it’s a little chilly outside and I can see the trees on Old Campus losing their leaves to the breeze. This song is like a weight lifted off my chest.

  1. “December” by TURBO

This is my first favorite song since I was little, a Korean song from the 90s that, like the month of December, 12 a.m and my favorite number 12 says that sometimes the best thing I can do is to give myself a fresh start, and that starts with a breath of fresh air outside.

Although I consider “Linger” the soundtrack of Michelle Park, this song is the true past, present and future of my life, and I hold it very close to my heart. The bells ringing in the opening remind me of snow falling gently, a winter-like calm that I carry to my mind, and I could listen to it on repeat forever.

This is possibly the most random playlist I have ever made, so please don’t take this too seriously. But also DO take it seriously because even if it sounds stupid, I promise that just taking a walk around campus will heal, and it is so important to take some time for yourself.

If you ever see me walking around with my earbuds in, I am probably listening to one of these songs.

Happy stomping!!

MICHELLE PARK
