An unidentified member of the Yale community was inappropriately touched at around 2 p.m. Tuesday on Hillside Place, according to Yale Police Department Chief Ronnell Higgins.

The victim was walking near the intersection of Mansfield Street and Hillside Place when an unidentified man approached her, grabbed her in the genital area and then fled the scene, moving away from Yale’s campus, according to an email Higgins sent to the Yale community later Tuesday afternoon.

The perpetrator has not been identified and the New Haven Police Department will investigate the assault, Higgins wrote.

The NHPD has reported other instances of unwanted touching in East Rock recently, and the YPD has increased patrols in the area of Tuesday’s incident, according to Higgins.

Higgins urged any member of the Yale community who has experienced sexual assault to contact the Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education Center, the Title IX Coordinator, the University-Wide Committee on Sexual Misconduct, Yale University Health Services and other advocacy services.
