A threat against the Yale Health building on Lock Street Thursday night prompted the University to send texts, emails and phone calls alerting students to the possible danger.
The alerts said police were on the scene and that the building was locked, and urged students to avoid the area. But by 8 p.m., the threat had been resolved and police were no longer on scene. At 8:19 p.m., a follow-up alert informed Yalies that the suspect who called in the threat was in custody.
The suspect was apprehended in West Haven, according to David Hartman, spokesman for the New Haven Police Department. Hartman said the NHPD responded to the threat and had officers at Yale Health on Thursday night.
“So we had a threat complaint at the Yale Health Plan, and since then we have resolved the issue. There is no longer a threat,” YPD Lieutenant Brian Logan told the News on Thursday evening at the Yale Security Department, located adjacent to Yale Health.
Logan said the threat was resolved 20 minutes after release of the first Yale alert. He declined to comment further on the nature of the threat or the identity of the suspect.
