Faculty members have voted to adopt three academic policy changes that were proposed by the Yale College Council, according to a Tuesday YCC email.

Beginning in fall 2014, professors will be allowed to set term paper deadlines as late as the last day of exam period each semester. Currently, paper deadlines are required to fall on or before the final day of reading period, though some professors do not follow this policy, the YCC wrote in the email. The new policy is intended to support students who have many papers to write by allotting them more time to complete their assignments, the YCC wrote.

The YCC also successfully implemented a “department ambassadors” program, in which departments and majors will recruit unpaid upperclassmen as a new advising resource for underclassmen deciding between majors.

The faculty has also voiced support for the YCC’s proposal to recommend limiting the value of final exams in overall course grades, though the details of this limit have not been determined according to the email.
