With an overwhelming 100+ events being thrown campus this weekend, Cross Campus previews all the parties, galleries, open houses and presentations to offer a highlighted selection of festivities to put on your calendar. Years in the making, Inauguration festivities are settling over the campus at last. Banners are being flown over Beinecke plaza and Salovey’s white tent has been raised over Old Campus. Plaques are going up along walkways mapping out the “Presidential Inauguration” ceremonies in full. Once the events are in full swing this weekend, the entire University will be throwing open its doors in a campus-wide open house. XC offers a more concise selection of events to help attendees plan their Saturday and Sunday schedules.

The Inauguration Ball. Saturday, 9 PM. Old Campus.
It wouldn’t be a proper inauguration without a good old-fashioned Yale undergraduates party of course. With a sweeping dance-floor on the Old Campus lawn and “elegant attire request,” this gala promises to be the undergraduate must-attend of the weekend. The Professors of Bluegrass, featuring Salovey himself, are also planning a guest set.

Jen Kramer, Magician. Saturday, 1:45–2:15 PM. Library Walk.
The weekend’s only event headlined by merely one person: Jen Kramer’s award-winning, Vegas-featured routine is said to be nothing short of magical. If Yale is Hogwarts, this is Charms.

Symposium: Five Ancient Secrets to Modern Happiness. Saturday 1–2 PM. McNeil Lecture Hall.

For students missing the cold echo and academic stimulation of their weekday lecture halls, a series of lectures held by some of the University’s top professors will present topics such as as Game Theory and Five Ancient Secrets to Modern Happiness. This lecture is one of thirteen slated for the weekend — like shopping period, but no homework.

Yale Peabody Museum ¡Fiesta Latina! Saturday 10 AM. Peabody Museum of Natural History. The 11th annual celebration of Latin American tradition is set to include some weekend staples — dance performances and a mariachi band — in its lineup of festive cultural showcases.

Canine Kick-Off. Saturday, 10–10:30 AM. Cross Campus.
Saturday kicks off with a dog show on Cross Campus headlined by mascot Handsome Dan XVII and Portia, President Salovey’s Havanese. Crowds expected.

Ingalls Rink Tour. Saturday 11:30 AM–12:30 PM. Ingalls Rink.
Explore the gorgeous “Yale Whale,” home to the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, and bask in the glory of the National Championship trophy before the new campaign starts up. The 2013 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey National Championship Trophy will be on display.

Mory’s Open House. Saturday, 3–4 PM. Mory’s.
Few things embody Yale’s tradition like Mory’s. Whether you are a Mory’s regular — if those exist — or have yet to drink from the cup, take advantage of the restaurant’s open doors and check out this legendary New Haven spot.

Yale Carillon Concert. Saturday, 4:30–5 PM. Harkness Tower.
For those that enjoy the ringing of the Yale bells, Harkness Tower is postcard material and this concert is a must-attend. Other students may wish to find other activities to fill this hour on campus, such as those far up Science Hill or near Timothy Dwight.

Inauguration Procession and Ceremony. Sunday, 1:45–3:30 PM. Woolsey Hall.
A chiming of the Yale Memorial Carillon in Harkness Tower at 1:45 pm initiates this rite of passage. This is the occasion of excessive ceremony that makes Yale what it is — the procession will include faculty in academic garb, the golden mace of Yale, the keys to the University, Yale’s original charter from 1701, and the important University heads — all on a long march from Yale Law School to Cross Campus. Though the ceremony is only open to a limited audience, be sure to catch live YDN coverage of this historic occasion.

Block Party. Sunday, 3–5 PM. Hillhouse Ave.
A University-wide party outside Salovey’s home on Hillhouse shortly after the main event, the Inauguration Ceremony itself — cheers to that!
