Eli Markham ’13 will serve as deputy campaign manager for Connecticut State Senator Toni Harp ARC ’78 in her bid for the mayor’s office, Markham told the News Wednesday.

Markham, a former science and technology editor for the News, joined the campaign through Metropolitan Public Strategies, a political consulting firm advising Harp on communications, policy and field efforts. He will work full-time through the election, helping to manage everything from fundraising to vote pulling.

“The campaign manager can only be in one place at a time,” Markham said. “I have to be everywhere else.”

Markham said he supports Harp because of her legislative accomplishments as a New Haven alderman and state senator representing the Elm City. He cited her work on community policing on the Board of Aldermen and her leadership of the State Senate’s appropriations committee as evidence of her wide-ranging experience.

He added that he is looking forward to “intensive door-knocking efforts” in the three wards where Yale students live — Wards 1, 2 and 22 — once classes resume in August.

“All of the Board of Aldermen members from those Wards have endorsed Toni and we’re going to work with their field teams to bring as many Yalies as possible to the polls for Toni.”

Harp’s campaign manager is Jason Bartlett.
