At its monthly meeting this Tuesday, the New Haven Board of Zoning Appeals gave the go-ahead for the University’s planned construction work on music buildings Hendrie Hall and Leigh Hall, The New Haven Independent reported.

Located on Elm and College streets, respectively, Hendrie Hall and Leigh Hall are both over a century old. The planned renovation project, which will include joining the two buildings as well as making interior repairs on each of them, is necessary to ensure that they meet programmatic needs, architect Chris Course told the board.

As they currently stand, neither building complies with zoning regulations. The renovations will aim to correct this.

Construction is set to begin in May 2014, University administrators told the News this February. Lauren Zucker ’00, Yale’s director of New Haven Affairs, told the Independent that pending final site plan approval, the project will see completion in approximately two years.
