• After the University’s abrupt decision to cut ties with Indigo Blue and former Buddhist Chaplain Bruce Blair ’81 last month, both the University and Indigo Blue have separately continued to offer programs to Yale’s Buddhist community. University Chaplain Sharon Kugler held a second meeting between administrators and students Monday evening, and students who said they felt the conversations have not been productive. Blair has continued to offer Indigo Blue programs at his house near campus, where he has relocated the Buddhist shrine formerly housed in the Branford Memorial Chapel.
  • Several Yalies have founded a new organization called GAKKO that was launched last semester and aims to reform education worldwide by bringing a team of American college students to Japan to work with high school students during a 6-day camp. The program, which had its first session last summer, was funded by $250,000 from the Japanese education firm Benesse and is currently negotiating funding for the coming years.
  • After a summer of organizational rearrangement, Students and Alumni of Yale has slimmed down its leadership stucture this semester to increase efficiency. STAY — a group that aims to bring together students and alumni for social, service, and career networking opportunities — officially opened its doors to member applications last January, and the group has seen rapid growth in the months since. The group partners with the Association of Yale Alumni to offer panels, forums and social gatherings to current undergraduates, graduate students and alumni of all schools. Group leaders say the organization restructured its board and membership this semester to operate more efficiently and provide a greater number of events to the Yale community.
