• Berkeley students tired of an overcrowded dining hall may soon be able to eat in peace on biweekly Monday nights. Students interviewed expressed frustration with the suggested change, though Berkeley students said they would appreciate the lower traffic during popular meal times. Director of Residential Dining Cathy Van Dyke SOM ’86 said the new policy aims to alleviate overcrowding in the dining hall and to decrease the workload for dining staff.
  • After the GPA cut-offs for Latin honors reached an all-time high for the third year in a row, Yale College faculty are beginning to investigate grading trends in the college. Though Yale has kept information about its grade trends private since the 1970s, Miller said faculty have been monitoring long-term GPA trajectories across the country, and will examine Yale’s relation to these trends and the function of grades as a “pedagogical tool.”
  • High school seniors applying to college next fall will face a redesigned Common Application — but some of the proposed changes have already been criticized by college admissions experts.The updates, which were announced Oct. 5, aim to improve user experience and include a simplified online interface, a streamlined fee-waiver application system and the removal of the option to upload a résumé.
