INRL 690, “Leadership,” may be getting some new course reading. General Stanley McChrystal has signed on with a Washington, DC-based literary agent to write a book on leadership and his experiences on the battlefield.

McChrystal, who was dismissed in June from his position as commanding general in Afghanistan, is now teaching the seminar in leadership to graduate and some undergraduate students. His dismissal came after he and his subordinates were quoted making negative remarks about Vice President Joe Biden and other members of the administration in a Rolling Stone magazine article.

The book will focus on leadership in McChrystal’s military career as a whole rather than its end, according to a source close to the general. However, the source indicated that McChrystal may use the book as an opportunity to clear up some misperceptions about his tenure leading the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
