Branford College dining hall will go trayless tomorrow as part of a new weekly initiative, “Trayless Tuesdays,” Branford Master Steven Smith announced in an e-mail to the college’s community Monday.

Branford is embarking on this “experiment in trayless dining” with the hopes of cutting back on energy and water waste, as well as encouraging healthy eating, Smith said. The college’s STEP coordinators will be in the dining hall to assist with any ensuing mayhem.

Other recent “experiments in trayless dining” have been met with mixed results: While students In Jonathan Edwards College fared alright during a day without trays last February, the removal of trays from Commons dining hall in September caused an uproar from undergraduates that prompted the return of the trays less than one week later.
