Darnell Goldson, former legislative aide to mayoral incumbent Mayor John DeStefano Jr., confirmed Tuesday to the New Haven Register that he is no longer running for mayor. This leaves DeStefano as the only candidate in the 2010 mayoral election. Another candidate, former state representative Bill Dyson, said in late March that he will not be seeking the position. Goldson first announced his candidacy in January 2008, nearly two years before election day. If re-elected, DeStefano will become the longest-serving mayor in New Haven’s history, with nine terms in office.
