New Haven resident Torrance McCown, 44, was convicted yesterday in Bridgeport after taking part in a crack-cocaine distribution ring. McCown and 16 others were indicted and arrested in January 2008 for allegedly trafficking drugs from the Bronx into the Newhallville section of the city and selling them. All 17 were either convicted or pled guilty, awaiting sentencing. The arrests were the results of “Operation No Nonsense,” conducted by the New Haven Drug Task Force, which comprises federal drug agents and local police department detectives. McCown will be sentenced April 30 and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
