The women’s basketball team (6-16, 4-4 Ivy) will try to regroup this weekend after six days of thinking about missed chances. The Bulldogs’ self-destruction over the last 8:16 against Penn (4-18, 1-6) will continue to confound the rest of the season — the Elis went from a tied game to an eight-point loss against a previously winless team in the Ivy League. Had the Bulldogs won, they would currently sit in third place, two games behind leader Cornell (15-6, 7-1) and tied with Columbia (8-14, 5-3) and Dartmouth (8-14, 5-3), with a legitimate shot to still make a run for the title.
Instead, the Elis reside in fifth place as the Big Red and Lions come to town. The Bulldogs played Cornell even for a half in Ithaca, so the Elis appear to have a chance to make some noise at home against the Big Red.
Columbia should come in motivated on Saturday after the Bulldogs upset the Lions, 66-59, on their home court. With every game a must-win down the stretch for the Elis to have any shot at the title, they cannot afford another let-down like last Saturday against Penn.
