Craig Breslow ’02 is back in the majors.

The former Eli pitcher and captain was recalled by the San Diego Padres yesterday from AAA Portland as Major League Baseball teams expanded their rosters from 25 to 40 players.

Breslow, the first Bulldog since Ron Darling ’82 to play in the majors, was first called up from AA Mobile July 23. He was sent down two days later, recalled on July 30 and optioned back to Portland again Aug. 13.

In all, the lefty made six appearances in relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out 10 in eight and two-third innings.

A native of Trumbull, Conn., Breslow was drafted in the 26th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002 but was released July 4, 2004. He finished the summer with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League. The following February, he tried out for the Padres, received an invite to spring training and was assigned to AA Mobile.
