New Haven police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbings of two local men Tuesday.
Police said the incident, which occurred at about 3:18 p.m. near the intersection of Lombard and Ferry streets, followed a verbal and physical altercation between the two men, 24-year-old Jermaine McGee and 34-year-old Kyle Wells.
An acquaintance of one of the men became involved in the fight, during which a knife was produced, police said. Wells and McGee then received multiple stab wounds.
Wells was was listed in stable condition at the Hospital of St. Raphael Tuesday afternoon, while McGee was listed in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Detectives are pursuing leads in the investigation, police said.
