On Monday, the Yale College Democrats endorsed former state Comptroller Bill Curry as Democratic nominee for governor. The endorsement is one of five Curry has received from Connecticut college organizations.

The other college groups to endorse Curry were from the University of Connecticut, Wesleyan University, Trinity College, and Fairfield University.

“I cherish their support,” Curry said. “These young Democrats can do so much to make this campaign a grass-roots crusade for political reform.”

Samantha Jay ’04, the president of the Yale College Democrats, said the organization was impressed with Curry’s desire to reach out to Yale Democrats.

“Out of the two major Democratic candidates, we feel that Bill Curry is the one who can defeat [Gov. John G.] Rowland in the general election.”

Curry is running against state Senate Majority Leader George Jepsen and New Haven businessman John Nussbaum . The winner will face incumbent Rowland in the November general election.
