To the Editor:
I read Thursday’s editorial (“Fulfilling Yale’s global academic mission,” 4/18) with great interest. Your suggestion of offering courses taught abroad during the summer was particularly gratifying to me since, as the director of Yale Summer Programs, I have tried to provide these sorts of opportunities to Yale students.
It has been my goal to expand summer courses abroad, and we will be offering six Yale College courses abroad this summer. We also offer three non-language courses abroad.
I hope that these offerings can be expanded in years to come. It should also be noted that Summer Programs works closely with the Office of International Education and Fellowship Programs, and so in fact a form of the Summer Abroad Office that you advocate already exists in Yale Summer Programs.
