Thirty-four students from Quinnipiac University were charged with using fake IDs to get into a bar and underage drinking last weekend.

Police raided the Tavern Cafe and arrested 44 people, including 34 Quinnipiac students and a prospective Quinnipiac student.

The students face court fines and discipline from the university. Quinnipiac’s fine for underage drinking is $100.

Hamden Deputy Police Chief William Onofrio said all the Quinnipiac students involved used fake identification cards.

“I will say that there are a lot of good fake IDs out there but the establishments have to be aware of this,” Onofrio said. “This one particular establishment over the weekend, there was a 17-year-old drinking in it and you should be able to pick up a 17-year old as not being 21 when entering your establishment.”

Police on Monday said the bar owner had not been cited.
