New Haven police and state officials conducted inspections of 12 stores Wednesday in an effort to identify tobacco vendors that were illegally selling to minors.

Four individuals were cited for failing to check for identification when selling to minors; they received $200 fines. Employees at AF Forbes, China Store, Gerry’s Shell and Orange Market received the summonses, police said. The other eight locations inspected were in compliance with the state’s tobacco law.
