To the Editor:
I simply cannot understand Russell Greenberg’s remarks (“Touchy T-shirt pulled from store’s racks,” 9/26) that compare wearing a tube top to a T-shirt with a “butchered” woman on it. It is completely absurd, in my opinion, that a Yale student can think so grossly and ignorantly.
If the image of a “butchered” woman had been contextualized differently, saying something along the lines of “This is wrong,” then its production and sale would have been validated. I just cannot agree with Greenberg’s assertion that the T-shirts’ statement is comparable to a woman wearing a tube top — absolutely not. A woman wearing a tube top does not glorify the objectification of a woman nearly as abominably as an image of a woman likened to a dead cow.
