Women’s hockey gets first win

The women’s hockey team snagged its first win of the season last night in an away game against ECAC opponent Rennselaer.

Freshman forward Krista Yip-Chuck ’17 scored the game winner late in the second period to give the Bulldogs a 2–1 victory. Both Eli goals in the contest came from freshmen.

Yale (1–5–1, 1–3–1 ECAC) managed just 12 shots in the game, while allowing the Engineers (3–8–1, 2–3–0) to take 40. Goaltender Jaimie Leonoff ’15, however, saved 39 of those, raising her season save percentage to 0.927.

Defenseman Taylor Marchin ’17 put Yale up early with a powerplay goal just three minutes into the game. Her goal was one of just two shots that the Bulldogs took in the entire period.

Rennselaer engineered a response early in the second period, as forward Toni Sanders put the puck past Leonoff after a scramble in front of the net.

Yip-Chuck scored with five minutes to go in the second period to put the Elis back on top, 2–1. The score would remain that way for the remainder of the second and third periods.

Yale will attempt to keep its momentum going at Union tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
