Fifty College Republicans and Democrats chapters, including the Yale College Democrats, have signed a national statement affirming their support for same-sex marriage.

The Yale College Democrats have signed a nationwide same-sex marriage statement that proclaims “We Support Equality,” joining 50 College Democrats and Republicans chapters across the country.

The leadership statement — started jointly by the University of Pennsylvania’s College Democrats and College Republicans chapters — affirms the belief that the right to marry should be given to all citizens regardless of sexual orientation. While all College Democrats chapters in the Ivy League have signed the statement, the Columbia and Cornell College Republicans chapters were the only College Republicans chapters in the Ivy League to sign.

We, the Presidents of College Democrats and College Republicans chapters from across America, stand united to affirm the right of all Americans to marry the person they love, regardless of gender. We challenge our nation’s leaders to join us in defense of marriage equality for LGBTQ couples.
