- Ward 10 Alderman Justin Elicker FES ’10 SOM ’10 is officially the first mayoral candidate eligible for public financing through New Haven’s Democracy Fund. In a Thursday morning press release, Elicker’s campaign treasurer Melanie Quigley said Elicker’s campaign had reached the 200 contributions necessary to qualify for public financing on Wednesday night, making him eligible for a $19,000 grant and matching funds of up to $125,000 through the Fund.
- This weekend, the Yale College Council will elect a second replacement member of its executive board in the middle of an academic year for the first time in the council’s history. On Jan. 10, former Yale College Council Vice President Debby Abramov ’14 announced in an email to the YCC that she would not return to Yale this semester, and 12 days later, YCC Secretary Leandro Leviste ’15 also announced that he would take the spring semester off.
- The Graduate Student Assembly is lobbying the administration to provide more funding opportunities to assist Ph.D. students who need a sixth year to complete their dissertations. The formal Graduate School funding package finances five years of study for doctoral candidates, but many spend an additional year to complete their dissertation.
