• In a four-day operation that kicked off last Friday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 45 people in Massachusetts and Connecticut, including two in New Haven. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers arrested the 45 individuals as part of “Operation Threats Against the Community,” according to a Wednesday afternoon ICE press release. New Haven, Bridgeport and Hamden were among the locations where arrests took place — all told, Connecticut saw 40 arrests.
• Professors say they will raise objections to Yale’s planned liberal arts college in Singapore at today’s Yale College faculty meeting. One faculty member requested at February’s faculty meeting that Yale-NUS be put on the agenda this month, but Yale College Dean Mary Miller temporarily canceled the meeting Feb. 17 because no other major items were on the agenda.
• With patient intake levels pushing maximum capacity, Yale-New Haven Hospital — Connecticut’s largest medical facility — is attempting a twofold approach: increasing the number of beds for its current Elm City property, and purchasing the Hospital of Saint Raphael, the state’s fourth largest hospital. Yale-New Haven Hospital is asking state regulators to approve the addition of 70 beds to its campus over the next two years — an investment of $1.4 million — that will grow the facility’s current 1,008 beds and ease a spike in patient volume.
