Deferred senior makes viral vid about Yale

What would you do to get into Yale? For Jackie Milestone, the answer is a four minute smorgasboard of singing, guitar and Yale apparel.

After being deferred this fall, Milestone uploaded a song about her Yale deferral to Youtube on Tuesday. The catchy hook comes from the line: “Yale, you’ve made me white and blue for you.”

“Yale is more than just my first choice school, it is a school I know well and have dreamed of attending ever since I discovered that colleges existed,” reads the video’s description.

At the two minute mark, Milestone takes a break to order chocolate milkshake and pizza from Yorkside to her home in Philadelphia (though clearly she’s not a Yalie yet, otherwise it would have been moosetracks). In the lyrics of her song, it appears that her father was a Saybrugian.

Jackie currently has over 300 views and a number of supportive comments. From her possibly unintentional key change to the undulations of her waterbed, we wish her all the best of luck.

300 views constitutes a viral video now?

When the audience is just Yale, kind of lol. Also, YouTube stats are cached. So it’s probably a bit more than that now. Still not a ton :)

      1) no, it still doesn’t constitute a viral video. The audience is not just Yale, since this video somehow got attention on at least two local news websites (don’t ask me how).

      2) I know how youtube stats work; they’re at 800some hits now and still not anywhere near “viral” status.

Fight the good fight, River, or something.

Give me a break and have some dignity. NO institution of higher learning is worth this crap.

I think this video is really inspiring. Rather than wallowing in despair after getting deferred (as most students do) and throwing away her dream of Yale, she found a creative way of making her application stand out. It’s a cute video that shows how much she cares about the school. But most importantly, it shows that that she is someone who doesn’t give up in the face of failure. I hope this video becomes “viral” enough that it catches the attention of admission officers and shows what incredible perseverance this applicant has. Good luck girl!

Let the girl in, but not because of her voice!

Seriously, since she was “deferred,” she is competitive. This video is clever and a sign of high motivation – and a pledge to demonstrate to Yale that a decision to admit her will prove wise.

    And I loved the dogs!

    A good show.

Actually it was embarrassing but why nitpick right?

  • wellwell

C’mon, she’s adorable, sings in public and isn’t afraid to make a bit of a fool out of herself. Quintessential Yalie. I hope she gets in!

Yale would be just fine with a few less of people demanding that the world pay attention to their singing.

When I was admitted over 40 years ago, a music tape and/or dance film only counted about 1% towards admission. If she’s got 1600 SATs, can swim the hundred under 50 seconds, and has spent time working at a mission in Namibia, I’d say this video should put her over the top.
