THE NEWS

  • David Burt reports on a growing trend toward statistical analyses of graduate programs, which humanities students and professor worry will force them to lose funding because the benefit of their work is more difficult to measure in numbers alone.
  • A 53-page complaint, filed last Friday, details allegations that former President of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo, who now directs the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, violated a series of domestic and international laws, ranging from common laws of Mexico to the Geneva Conventions in his alleged role in the attacks on rebels in the village of Acteal in Chiapas, Mexico on December 22, 1997. Since news of the lawsuit broke Monday evening, Zedillo has maintained his innocence and called the accusations “totally groundless and obviously false” in an email to the News Tuesday.
  • A meeting of the New Haven Reentry Roundtableon Tuesday brought community organizers and the formerly incarcerated together to discuss these problems and how to help the city’s reentry population. As about 40 people filed into a first floor room in Church on the Rock on Hamilton Street, New Haven Reentry Initiative Coordinator Amy Meek LAW ’09 greeted regulars and first-time attendees. The roundtable meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, and runs specific committees to address the various needs of the Elm City’s reentry population.
