Cross Campus: 9.13.11

It’s primary day. Those looking to vote in the Ward 22 Aldermanic race should head to the Wexler-Grant School at 55 Foote St.

Off-campus Yalies voting in Ward 2 should head to 259 Edgewood Ave. All polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Contagion. A Trumbull junior has contracted chicken pox, according to an email to Trumbull students from Dean Jasmina Besirevic-Regan and Chief of Student Medicine James M. Perlotto. “This student is being treated, and is doing well, but the fact of the illness compels us to write to you,” they wrote.

Apptastic. For your dining needs, there is now the Yale Dining iPhone Fast Track App, which monitors occupancy in dining halls and daily menus.

BRU-ing up a storm. As part of Greater New Haven Craft Beer Week, BAR’s BRU Rm will offer a selection of local brews at noon Sunday. The $20 admission fee will buy (legal) Yalies a collector glass, two slices of pizza and two 10-ounce beers.

Broadway blues. The Kings of Harmony, a brass band from the United House of Prayer for All People on Dixwell Avenue, jazzed up Broadway Monday evening with New Orleans-style blues. Band leader Norman Smith said performing in that location would be a good way to “bring everyone together from the community.”

In case you’re worried about being unemployed after graduation, the Yale Career Fair is set to take place Friday at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Abercrombie & Fitch Co. is set to attend.

Driving Mr. Auslander. Yale Journalism Initiative coordinator Mark Oppenheimer emailed students asking if they wanted to be a chauffeur to writer Shalom Auslander, who will read at the Slifka Center Wednesday. “Anyone who does not have class Wednesday and wants to make some $$ schlepping a famous author around … let me know!” Oppenheimer wrote.

Busted. A man was arrested on Park Street on Monday afternoon. He was allegedly trying to break into the Dinmore—an apartment building at 224 Park St.— according to Yale Police Department Lt. Jay Jones.
