Yale Athletics is reporting that Michael Sands ’11 has withdrawn from Yale for personal reasons and will no longer be with the team. Sands was elected captain by his teammates for the 2010-2011 season. There is no word on who will replace him in that role. Porter Braswell ’11, Alfonso Costa ’11 and Raffi Mantilla ’11 are the remaining three seniors on the team.

Last year, Sands was second on the team in scoring with 10.8 points per game and led the Bulldogs with 6.1 rebounds per game. Sands and Braswell started all 31 games for the Bulldogs a year ago.

The Bulldogs will begin their season against Quinnipiac on Saturday. Expected starters for the Bulldogs include Rhett Anderson ’12 and Reggie Willhite ’12 at the forward spots, Greg Mangano ’12 at center, and Braswell and Austin Morgan ’13 at the guard positions. The game will begin at 8 p.m. in Uncasville, Conn. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
