Dispatch from D.C.: Halloween costumes and the Roots

Reporter Baobao Zhang writes in from the “Rally to Restore Sanity.”

Hundreds of thousands are on the mall for the rally. People in the crowd range from kids to college students to seniors. The mood is all too Halloween with people in costumes, such as colonial patriots, the cookie monster and Christine O’Donnell-inspired witches. People carry signs with light-hearted slogans and wear t-shirts like “I will make Glen Beck cry” and “I am with reasonable.”

The Roots and John Legend were greeted with much applause. But, things got serious when Legend introduced a 60′s protest song by reminding the audience that America is still in a war and the government is sending young men into battle.
