Duke copies Yale

Duke University is re-vamping its housing system, and the plans look a little familiar.

The new “housing model,” as the Duke community is calling it, is almost an exact duplicate of Yale’s residential college system. It aims to equalize the residential dorm system; the student body would be divided into small communities or “houses,” in which they could live for all of their undergraduate experience. The houses are meant to give the large university a more intimate and personal feel.

Yale’s own system has been in effect since the early 1900s. Can we really blame Duke for copying the best system? No. It’s just too bad it took them an extra 70 years to figure it out.
