M. BASEBALL | Senior first baseman Trygg Larsson-Danforth ’10 had the best season of his college career — and that got noticed.

Larsson-Danforth, a Mattapoisett, Mass., native, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 49th round of the 2010 MLB draft on June 9. He was the 1,493rd overall pick.

The senior led the Bulldogs with 11 home runs this year and boasted a .372 average, enough to be named first-team All-Ivy.

“As [the draft] kept going on, I started to get a little skeptical about [being picked],” Larsson-Danforth told The Standard-Times. “I’m just … I’m still in shock.”

Meanwhile, Bulldog Ryan Lavarnway ’09 is already having success in the minor leagues after having been taken in the sixth round by the Boston Red Sox in 2008. Lavarnway left Yale after his junior year, in 2008, and hit 21 home runs for the Class A Greenville Drive. A little more than halfway through this year’s season for the Class A-Advanced Salem Red Sox, Lavarnway has 13 homers and is batting .304.
