Change of hands for proposal to ban minors from clubs

A proposal that may ban minors from clubs that serve alcohol has been reassigned from the Board of Aldermen’s Public Safety Committee to its Youth Services Committee, Board of Aldermen President Carl Goldfield said Thursday.

Ward 7 Alderwoman Frances Clark, the chair of the Youth Services Committee, said she asked Goldfield for the proposal be heard by the Youth Services Committee because it centers on a “youth issue.” Originally, she said, she requested that the proposal to be assigned to both committees, but the Public Safety Committee chair, Ward 13 Alderman Alex Rhodeen, decided that it could be assigned solely to the Youth Services Committee.

Rhodeen said that it “seemed only appropriate” that the item would go to the Youth Services Committee. “It really is a question of youth,” he said.
