Not only pre-frosh have taken an interest in the new admissions video: “That Why I Chose Yale!” appeared on Gawker, The New York Times The Choice blog and washingtonpost.com.

And on Twitter, “The Office” star Rainn Wilson tweeted, “This makes me SOOOO glad I got rejected by Yale.”

Former Yale classics professor and author of “Love Story” Erich Segal died Tuesday from a heart attack at age 72. Segal was teaching at Yale when he wrote the famous book, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film in 1970.

Time for a trim? Branford’s ground maintenance staff held “pruning classes” Tuesday in the residential college’s courtyard. One disgruntled Branfordian lamented that “some beautiful trees are losing their branches.”

Also in Branford, the college’s buttery staff will be donating all of its tips to the Haiti Relief Fund and Relay for Life, according to an e-mail circulated Monday.

Tired of Toad’s? Static, a new 18-and-over nightclub, will open Thursday at 212 Crown St., the former site of Sinergy until the bar closed last month following a November stabbing.

Snooki comes to New Haven. Cast member Nicole “Snooki” Pollizzi from MTV’s “Jersey Shore” is scheduled to make an appearance at Gotham Citi Cafe (on the corner of Church and Crown streets) this weekend. Snooki’s visit to the Elm City is expected to mark the second “Jersey Shore” cast appearance of the weekend, following fellow cast member Vinny Guadagnino’s planned visit at Elevate Lounge Thursday.

Energy monitors have now been installed in Pierson and Silliman colleges. The monitors were made possible by a $40,000 grant awarded by the Accelerating Campus Climate Initiatives at the Rocky Mountain Institute. The monitor outside the Pierson dining hall does not appear to be functional yet.

The Yale Historical Review, an undergraduate history publication, is available online for the first time today.

THIS DAY IN YALE HISTORY

1986 A female freshman’s shower in a first-floor Durfee bathroom was interrupted at 11:30 p.m. when “a lone male entered and pulled back the shower curtain.” The intruder left and returned accompanied by two other males. The freshman, who screamed for help and phoned the Yale Police, was unharmed and the intruders made no attempt to touch her, but “they did stare at her.”

Correction: Jan. 20, 2010

An earlier version of this Cross Campus misreported the installation of two energy monitors. The monitors have been installed in both Pierson and Silliman colleges, not only in Pierson.
