Yale announced its 2011 class of World Fellows Tuesday.

Sixteen people from fifteen different countries received the honor. The World Fellows class of 2011 brings the total number of Fellows to 171, representing 77 different countries. This year India was represented twice.

“This is an extraordinary group of men and women,” University President Richard Levin said in a press release. “We will be so fortunate to have them here, and I am confident they will all gain tremendously from their interactions with the Yale community.”

From August to December, the World Fellows will study at Yale in an intensive leadership program that includes a seminar taught by leading Yale faculty, weekly dinners with guest speakers, and the option to audit any of Yale’s 3000 courses.

The World Fellows program was started during Yale’s tercentennial celebration in 2001 as an initiative to increase the university’s global footprint. The program honors exemplary mid-career professionals from around the world and offers them a chance to study at Yale.
