As the ECAC season winds to a close with the conference semifinals and finals this weekend in Atlantic City, the men’s hockey team is scooping up end of season awards.

Forward Brian O’Neill ’12, who finished third in the conference in scoring with 25 points and helped lead Yale to a school record for wins, was named one of three finalists for ECAC player of the year. He will compete for the award with Dartmouth goalie James Mello — who Yale could meet in the ECAC championship game if it beats Colgate in the semifinals on Friday — and defending player of the year Chase Polacek of RPI.

O’Neill was also named to the ECAC’s first team all-league. He joined linemates Andrew Miller ’13 and Chris Cahill ’11 as the only Elis to make all-league teams. Miller was also named to the first team, while Cahill made the third team. The trio, which has played together all season, has combined for 111 of Yale’s 367 points.

Yale blue also found a place in the ECAC’s weekly awards, as Broc Little ’11 was named the conference’s player of the week. Little netted two goals and contributed five assists in Yale’s three-game series win over St. Lawrence.

The Elis return to action at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Colgate in the ECAC semifinals in Atlantic City.
